The All Primary School Teachers’ Association (APSTA) will mark the 175th death anniversary of Welsh missionary Thomas Jones, known as the ‘Father of the Khasi Alphabet’ on September 16.
Jones died on September 16, 1849. The commemoration will be held at the Thomas Jones School of Mission in Saitsohpen Sohra from 10am. The event will also mark 182 years since the first lower primary school in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
On this day, APSTA will donate Rs 25,000 to the Wisdom Centre Umdihar, Ri Bhoi, and Rs 50,000 each to the Sanjo Mount Mercy Home, Borsing Children’s Home Mawsmai and to the Thomas Jones School of Mission.
