Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui formally inaugurated the new school building of the Umroi Presbyterian Higher Secondary School today.
The function was also attended by local MLA George Lyngdoh, Additional Chief Secretary DP Wahlang and other dignitaries.
Lyngdoh launched the school’s official website – uphssumroi.com and also handed over a cheque for Rs 2 lakh to the school Principal for a sanctioned work order.
The school building was funded by the Asian Development Bank through its scheme to support human capital development. The facility is equipped with a computer room, ‘smart class’ and digital library to impart quality education to the youth of the district.
Rymbui said that the school now does not lag behind when compared to those in the cities.
He also encouraged the youth to rigorously prepare for employment by studying hard. He cited the examples of the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service where very few youth from the state clear the respective exams because, he said, they are not willing to challenge themselves like young people do in other states.
