The Border Security Force (BSF) seized about 13 tons of dry peas worth Rs 22 lakh in Rongra under South Garo Hills.
The seizure was made on the intervening night of January 10-11 when a Tata truck loaded with the smuggled goods was intercepted. However, the drive managed to escape, the BSF said.
Informing that in the past year, 400 tons of dry peas meant for smuggling to Bangladesh were seized, the BSF said that smuggling of dry peas could have potential to disturb the commodity market of any nation, adding that vigil has been intensified along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
