Shillong, May 5:  Social activist Greneth M. Sangma has raised concerns regarding the appointment process at the PASF-Abong Noga College in Tura.

In a letter addressed to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, who also chairs the District Selection Committee, Sangma highlighted violation of the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy and the roster system.

Sangma objected to the recent hiring of a non-tribal candidate, Rakesh Mochahary, in the Department of History. This decision allegedly bypasses the established 40:40:5 reservation ratio mandated for Garos, Khasi-Jaintias, and other SC/ST groups.

Stating that as per the current staff composition, he pointed out that the quota for Garos is not being adhered to, as non-tribal members already exist in the faculty.

He contended that every vacancy in a small department must follow a post-based roster to ensure fair representation. Filling new vacancies with non-tribal individuals, especially in a tribal-majority district, undermines local candidates’ rights and violates reservation laws, he said.

He urged the office to direct the college authorities to produce the current roster register for the department to verify which specific roster point was assigned to the advertisement, to stay the appointment of the candidate pending a thorough inquiry, ensuring that the 40:40:5 reservation ratio is strictly upheld to protect the rights of the indigenous tribal community.
