The pressure group known as ACHIK has asked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to meet with its representatives at the Mini Secretariat in Tura rather than the Circuit House, calling the former a “more inclusive and conducive setting for negotiations” that will foster transparency and citizen involvement in the decision making process.
ACHIK is campaigning on two issues – making Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya and for a retrospective roster system. Members and supporters in the cause have been on a hunger strike for 13 days now.
In a letter to the CM, ACHIK said that the Mini Secretariat, being a government office located within the town, serves as a “more appropriate venue for discussions that directly impact the lives of the people.”
