Shillong, Aug 4: Five members of a family, including a toddler, died when their car (ML05 U 4926) overturned and fell into a gorge near Rngaiñ area on Sunday night. The family was on their way from Bhoirymbong to Langkyrdem.
The deceased have been identified 1.4 year old Damebanshngaiñ Kurbah, his parents Risbun Kurbah and Meban Ador Marbaniang, Aimeki Marbaniang and Ellida Marbaniang.
The accident is suspected to have been caused by heavy rainfall, which reduced visibility and made it difficult for the driver to navigate the road.
On the morning of August 4, a team from the Pynursla Police Station and the Search and Rescue Team descended 200 feet to the scene and recovered four bodies amid heavy rain.
