The National Handloom Development Corporation Limited (NHDC) organised a ‘Natural Dye Workshop’ at Sajer Community Hall, Ri-Bhoi, as part of the run-up to National Handloom Day 2025.
The workshop aimed to promote sustainable and eco-friendly natural dyes, enhancing the value of traditional handloom products. Hundreds of weavers from across the district participated, receiving hands-on training and expert guidance on natural dyeing techniques, a press release said.
PL Singhal, NHDC Manager (Commercial), said that natural dyes elevate the value of handcrafted products and contribute to sustainable textile production.
The event is part of a nationwide campaign by the Union Ministry of Textiles to empower handloom artisans and encourage sustainable practices. National Handloom Day is celebrated annually on August 7.
