When the whole of the country was fixated on the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a similar crime was played out here in Shillong but without the accompanying media circus.
Raja is thought to have been murdered by his wife, her boyfriend and three accomplices in Sohra on May 23.
Here in Nongrah, the murder of Priya Khongstia (24) took place some time between May 25 and May 28. Police believe that Donald Sohtun (30), the victim’s husband, killed his wife with a stone and wrapped her body in a blanket.
Sohtun was arrested on May 30, the day an FIR was filed by the girl’s relatives.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem today informed that the couple had an altercation on the day when the woman was killed .
The accused alleged that his wife was having an affair with another man. Sohtun surrendered to the authorities as police began looking for him.
The stone used to murder the woman has been recovered by police, Syiem said. The case will be charge-sheeted soon. Sohtun is currently in judicial custody.
Khongstia is originally a resident of Umniuh Tmar while Sohtun is from Mylliem Mawpynthih.
