Three men have been found guilty and sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment over a 2022 gang rape under the jurisdiction of Mawryngkneng police station.
The court of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial), East Khasi Hills, convicted the trio on June 2 for their involvement in the rape case.
The three – Elipsing Lawai, Marwello Lawal and Rakesh Marboh – were also fined Rs 1 lakh each for the offence under section 376D of the Indian Penal Code.
The guilty men were also sentenced to one year simple imprisonment under Sections 323 IPC for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 343 IPC for wrongful confinement for three or more days..
If they default in paying the fine, the convicts will undergo simple imprisonment for two months.
The case was investigated by woman police sub-inspector KD Sangma, who is presently posted at the Directorate of Infiltration.
