The A·chik Dedicated Integrity Leaders (ADIL) organisation has highlighted another example of a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project having seemingly been abandoned by the contractor only part of the way through.
ADIL president S Salgra G Momin said in a statement today that the project in Chirengpara and Makaburi villages under Gasuapara C&RD block in South Garo Hills were meant to be covered under a JJM project estimated at Rs 1.38-plus crore, which was scheduled for completed by 2022. However, according to the signboard at the site, work on the project only began in July 2023 and still remains incomplete.
“The contractor, A Khonglam, has failed to deliver on the project’s promises, leaving the villagers without access to clean drinking water. This is a clear case of negligence and dereliction of duty,” Momin said, adding a call for the authorities to revive and complete the project and hold the contractor accountable.
