A valedictory session of the ICAR-sponsored 21-day winter school on ‘Advancing Innovations in Organic/Natural Farming for Efficient Utilisation of Natural Resources and Rural Livelihood Security’ was held today at the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGS-AS), Umiam.
The event was graced by senior academics along with faculty members, participants and students.
The session commenced with a welcome address and course report by Sanjay Swami, course director, who highlighted the 84 lectures, demonstrations, field visits and hands-on training conducted during the programme.
In his address, Ram Singh, Dean of COA Kyrdemkulai, stressed the importance of natural farming, emphasising its critical relevance in today’s world.
D Thakuria, Dean of CPGS-AS, emphasised the importance of adopting innovative approaches in organic and natural farming to enhance sustainability. He highlighted that ongoing innovation in these farming practices is crucial for providing low-cost solutions with a significant positive impact on the environment. He also spoke about the importance of biological interventions in enhancing farming practices.
Participants shared their experiences and appreciation for the programme. Savita Rani expressed that the sessions were highly beneficial and even dedicated a poem to the event. MS Dutta conveyed gratitude to the organisers and strongly recommended to conduct such similar programmes in the future for the greater benefit of the researchers and practitioners.
