Two more candidates for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election filed their nomination papers for the Mawkyrwat seat yesterday.
Polan Sohphoh of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and Carnes Sohshang of the National People’s Party (NPP) submit their paperwork to the Returning Officer of Mawkyrwat constituency.
Sohshang is the sitting MDC. He defected from the Congress Party last year and joined the NPP before the two parties ended up in an alliance together
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, Sohshang said that he does not regret leaving the Congress because it was a decision that was backed by all his supporters. He added that the NPP, under the leadership of HS Diengdoh, the party’s former candidate in Mawkyrwat, is united and working for victory.
Meanwhile, Sohphoh vowed that if people choose him this time he will follow up on issues relating to non-tribals’ trading licence, etc. He expressed hope for a positive response on polling day from the people.
