Ahead of the KHADC elections, the Mawkyrwat Block Congress Committee (MBCC) on Thursday welcomed supporters from other parties.
Most of those who joined the Congress in Mawkyrwat are from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the National People’s Party (NPP).
Daros Ramsiej, vice president of TMC Mawkyrwat, Alosis Nonglait, organising secretary of TMC Mawkyrwat, Prelim Marweiñ, chief organiser TMC Mawkyrwat and other leaders were welcomed by the Congress candidate for Mawkyrwat Constituency, Medalsing Lyngdoh under the leadership of Kynpham V. Kharlyngdoh, who is the president of the District Congress Committee (DCC).
Speaking at the function to welcome the new supporters, the Congress candidate from Mawkyrwat said that if he wins the MDC election, he will try to improve the laws to protect the land, the powers of the Rangbah Shnong and especially to guard the indigenous people in Meghalaya.
Speaking at the function, Ramsiej, said that the decision to join the Congress is not just a resolution of one person but a consensus with careful consideration.
“The Congress is the only party that can provide true democracy to the people. within the state and India as a whole.
He also alleged that the leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) are just followers of the National People’s Party (NPP) for their own benefit and not for the needs of the people.
“Therefore, this party has not reached anywhere compared to the Congress party,” Ramsiej said.
Kharlyngdoh in his speech, explained that the Congress has decided to join the NPP led coalition in the KHADC in 2023, with the intention to improve and strengthen the Sixth Schedule, which was then intended to be amended by the Parliament.
“The withdrawal is because we have seen that this plan of the Indian government has not reached anywhere. So we will ask them to withdraw from the NPP,” said Kharlyngdoh.
