The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission today examined the affidavits in the case related to former East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi in the form of examination in chief.
Ravi was accused of trying to forcefully evict a woman, Bindas Syiem, who was staging a hunger strike in Shillong on the night of June 9. Syiem was on a hunger strike to demand the repairing of the Nongpoh-Umden-Sonapur road in Ri-Bhoi.
MHRC Chairperson, retired Justice T Vaiphei, was present during the examination of the affidavits.
The MHRC will sit again on November 7 after both parties asked for some more time before submitting their case.
Ravi had gone to the site of the protest at the parking lot near the Secretariat with the ostensible intention of taking Syiem for a medical examination given her lack of food. This was resolutely opposed by Syiem and her supporters.
Syiem ended her fast on June 12 after receiving promises of action by the government. Ravi, meanwhile, was transferred on June 14 and made Commandant of the 6th Meghalaya Police Battalion.
