Ahead of the two-day visit of the Vice-President of India to Meghalaya, the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has called upon the VIP to see just how underdeveloped the state is.
HITO official Balajied Jyrwa welcomed the visit of Jagdeep Dhankhar to Meghalaya but urged him to also get an understanding of how corruption is harming the state and preventing it from developing.
“While the central government is sanctioning crores of [rupees] to Meghalaya for development, looking at the development and infrastructure, etc at the ground it is lacking behind in everything,” he alleged.
Jyrwa requested Dhankhar to visit places highlighted by HITO in a brochure to get an idea of the level of corruption taking place in the state under the current government.
Meanwhile, HITO leaders of Narpuh in East Jaintia Hills today conducted a march from Lumshnong to Umkiang to highlight the pathetic road condition along National Highway 6.
The members served a one month timeframe to the government to start showing seriousness in repairing NH-6.
