The 2nd International Conference on Economics and Public Policy (ICEP-II) under the theme “Emerging Frontiers in Inclusive Growth and Development” concluded at IIM-Shillong.
This year’s conference attracted around 55 distinguished participants from across India, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas. The international conference was partnered by Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, as Knowledge Partner, and supported by NEEPCO.
ICEP-II received 119 distinct research papers, with 44 selected for presentation across ten thematic tracks, including Health and Education, Sustainable Development, Climate Finance, and Gender and Cultural Diversity. This diversity of thought showcased the conference’s role as a platform for innovative inquiry into pressing economic challenges.
The conference commenced with an address from chief guest Dr. Abhiroop Mukhopadhyay, Professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi. His keynote address on, “Human Capital in India: Lenses Old and New,” set the tone for the discussions, emphasising the vital intersections of education, health, and labor reforms within India’s economic landscape.
Throughout the first day, six technical sessions featured 28 presentations on critical topics, concluding with a thought-provoking discussion led by Dr. Christine Farias and Dr. Gerard Farias from the University of New York, exploring the compatibility of growth and development amidst ecological concerns.
The second day continued with a keynote session by Dr. Syed Shurid Khan of the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, who emphasised the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in corporate strategies for fostering sustainable and inclusive growth across Southeast Asia. Virtual participation from esteemed delegates further enriched the dialogue.
The winners of the Best Paper Award at the conference are Ajay Sharma (IIM Indore) for “Commuting, Spatial Flexibility and Urban Wage Premium: Evidence from India”, Prateek Sharma (IIM Udaipur) for “Parental Migration and Intergenerational Educational Transmission” and Kirti Gupta (RBI) for “Fuelling Electric Vehicles Growth: Factors that Matter in India’s Electric Vehicle Growth Story”.
