Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem along with Deputy CEM Pynshngain N Syiem and other executive members paid a courtesy visit to Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar.
During the meeting, the Governor praised Meghalaya’s stunning natural beauty and favourable climatic conditions. He also emphasised several key areas of interest and highlighted the importance of improving educational standards to foster growth and development.
He expressed concern over the issue of drug abuse and discussed strategies to combat it effectively. He spoke about the protection of biodiversity and stressed the need for robust measures to safeguard the region’s rich biodiversity.
Further, the Governor encouraged the planting of native species to support ecological balance, and underscored the critical importance of conserving water resources for sustainable development.
The CEM and other members briefed the Governor on the Khasi traditional institutions, including the village dorbar and the Elaka and outlined various initiatives taken by the district council aimed at preserving cultural heritage, conserving the environment, and promoting societal welfare.
During the meeting, it was decided that the Governor will visit the Mawphlang Sacred Grove on September 3.
Meanwhile, members of the Meghalaya Parents Association of Disabled, Shillong met the Governor and updated him on the current status of disability management in the state, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by persons with disabilities and their families.
They discussed the urgent need for enhanced support and infrastructure to improve the quality of life for this vulnerable section of society.
The Governor listened attentively to the concerns raised and assured them that the Raj Bhavan would extend all possible assistance to support disability management efforts in Meghalaya. He expressed his commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities in the state.
