A brazen attack on members of a flying squad doing their duty for the upcoming general election had no political party involvement, an initial report has said.
Yesterday evening, after 9:30pm, a member of a flying squad team in the Tikrikilla area was physically assaulted by unknown miscreants who were in an inebriated condition, the Returning Officer for the Tura parliamentary seat said in a press release today.
This flying squad was on its way back after covering an election campaign meeting of the Trinamool Congress at Bandarkona Krishi field and Tikrikilla Hanuman Mandir compound.
The Executive Magistrate on duty sustained minor injuries and returned to work after receiving first aid.
“Prima facie evidence and submission made by the Executive Magistrate on duty rules out involvement of any political party or the attack being politically motivated,” the Returning Officer stated.
An FIR has been registered at Tikrikilla police station and investigations are ongoing.
This was the first reported incidence of violence during campaigning for the Tura seat. The magistrate, Adinson Ch Momin, suffered injuries that left him bleeding from the face.
According to Momin, approximately five men emerged from the darkness and launched the assault without provocation. The flying squad cameraman and a police constable were also caught up in the assault.
In his report, Momin emphasised that the attack was not a result of any confrontation between rival political factions, stating that it had “nothing to do with political parties.” This assertion suggests that the assault was a targeted act of violence against the election monitoring team, rather than a manifestation of broader political tensions in the region.
