The garbage dump at Tuber Kmaishnong in East Jaiñtia Hills does not emit any ghastly odours thanks to the workers’ thorough maintenance of the site in a shining example to other dumps in the state.
The workers are also very careful to see that the trash does not spill or flow into rivers and streams nearby.
Thliangmon Sana and Tiknabha Phawa are two workers who take care of separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at the site and are paid by the dorbar shnong of Tuber Kmaishnong.
Waheh Shnong of Tuber Kmaishnong Miki Lyngdoh said that the dorbar shnong wants to engage more workers at the garbage dump as they see cleanliness as a priority in the area.
Lyngdoh has also expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaiñtia Hills for selecting Tuber Kmaishnong as one of the model villages for waste collection and processing. It is under the initiative that an electric vehicle collects trash from every household in the village to transport it to the garbage dump.
The headman said that the project has not only made the village cleaner but also generated employment opportunities.
