The 35th biennial conference of the Home Science Association of India (HSAI Tura Chapter) was inaugurated by Tura MP Agatha Sangma today.
The three-day conference is hosted by the Central Agricultural University, Imphal at the College of Post–Graduate Studies In Agricultural Sciences, Umiam on the theme “Multidisciplinary Approach in Home and Community Science for Sustainable Development”.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Sangma expressed how the women have direct impact in making a better planet and how the conference deals with sustainable community. She recalled the contribution of late P.A. Sangma, Former MP and her father, in establishing the College of Community Science, Tura.
Assam Rajya Sabha MP, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa spoke about gender equality, gender bias and he stressed on how the research conducted should be put into practical to maximise the utility. He assured to help in conveying the findings of the home sciences to the central government and state government so further goals can be achieved.
Techno India University Co-Chancellor, Dr Manoshi Roy Chodhury talked about how Artificial intelligence can be incorporated into Home Science.
The presidential remark was delivered by CAU, Imphal Vice Chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra who spoke on the importance of Home Science, in many fields including entrepreneurship and health related knowledge and how it will impact the generations to come.
During the ceremony, a book of abstract and HSAI publications were released and awards were presented for paper presentations, recognising achievements in categories like Young Scientist Award, Mid-Career Award, and Senior Scientist Award.
The conference that will conclude on January 19 will feature technical sessions with 35 lead speakers from across the country. The program includes approximately 120 oral presentations and 80 poster presentations.
It aims to provide a platform for discussions and deliberations on themes such as Inclusive Food and Nutrition Security, Sustainable Resource Management, Human Well-being and Holistic Development, Towards Sustainable Textiles, and Creative Extension Approaches.
