UDP leader Titosstarwell Chyne today said that he has not received any information from the party leadership regarding his demand for disciplinary action against Nongkrem MDC Lambor Malngiang.
It may be noted that Malngiang who is the sitting MDC of the UDP recently shifted his allegiance to the NPP-led executive committee in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). Reports said that he is likely to contest next year’s district council polls on a NPP ticket.
However, members of the UDP are calling for disciplinary action to be taken against Malngiang while he is still officially a party member.
“Since this matter was appraised on December 20 we are yet to know about the decision and maybe the party will be sitting on this. But now that the festive season has started, maybe this will be taken up after the holidays,” Chyne told media persons here today.
Meanwhile, to the question of whether more UDP MDCs are jumping ship, Chyne said that to date the UDP strength in the KHADC is eight and that he has not heard of any such development.
“We are also intact as the RDA. HSPDP MDC from Mawkynrew Martle N. Mukhim is the co-chairman of the RDA,” Chyne said.
He however maintained that the independent MDC from Nongthymmai Latiplang Kharkongor is still with the opposition alliance led by UDP.
It may be mentioned that besides Malngiang, another UDP MDC Bindo M. Lanong has also extended his support to the NPP-led executive committee in the KHADC.
Lanong said that the UDP has neglected him since the Assembly election in February this year and also refused to reply to his letters.
