The Ri Kunai La Tynrai Festival was held at Umden Nongtluh in Ri-Bhoi today with an aim to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Raid Nongtluh, with a special emphasis on the significance of eri silk.
The festival was organised by the Nongtluh Eri Farmer Association and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was the chief guest on the occasion. Other dignitaries included Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, traditional leader of Raid Nongtluh T Syiem and others.
Raid Nongtluh is renowned for its eri silk market. This area has gained international recognition for its eri silk production and is often referred to as the eri silk village.
In organising this festival, the Nongtluh Eri Farmer Association seeks to promote eri silk while also emphasising the preservation of local culture and traditional practices.
Local youths and troupes performed various traditional dances and songs to demonstrate that they are rich in traditional heritage.
Tynsong commended the association for organising the event and emphasised the importance of continuing to rear silkworms in Raid Nongtluh as their expertise in eri silk production is globally recognised.
