The FKJGP South West Khasi Hills District has thanked Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong for the recent joint inspection of certain stretches of the Ranikor – Nonghyllam – Maheshkhola – Baghmara road.
During the joint inspection carried out on November 30, Tynsong found that the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) altered the specifications in the widening of Ranikor – Nonghyllam – Maheshkhola – Baghmara road.
This anomaly was detected on the stretch across Borbasing bridge to Alikwareng junction.
The five kilometer stretch of the road was constructed in the form of a single-lane road or intermediate lane road. Tynsong also directed the NHIDCL officials to correct the anomaly and ensure that the road was widened into two lanes as per the detailed project report.
Speaking at a press conference today, FKJGP South West Khasi Hills president D K Nonglait praised Tynsong for leading the joint inspection to detect the anomaly in the road project.
Nonglait also asked the NHIDCL to widen the road into two lanes since the land was acquired for two-laning.
“If this was not adhered to by the NHIDCL, we would not keep quiet. We may even file a PIL in the High Court since this road project is a matter of public interest,” he added.
