The 7th India International Folk Festival, a celebration of diverse cultures from around the world, kicked off with an inaugural ceremony at U Soso Tham Auditorium here today.
Governor Phagu Chauhan who attended the event as the chief guest, lauded the organisers, ICCR and the Department of Arts and Culture for holding the cultural extravaganza. He expressed his delight at the participation of seven countries – Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Russia, Cyprus, Croatia, Cuba, and Ethiopia – and commended the festival’s aim to promote cultural exchange and foster global understanding.
The Governor also highlighted the significance of showcasing Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage through performances by local Khasi, Jaiñtia, and Garo artists. He emphasized the state’s vibrant folk traditions and their embodiment of the spirit of “VasudhaivaKutumbakam,” a philosophy that espouses the interconnectedness of the world.
Naz State Dance Ensemble, Kazakhstan and Bong Sen Ethnic Music and Dance Theater of Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam performed during the inaugural function, which showcased the diverse artistic expressions and cultural traditions of the participating countries.
