In line with the central government’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme, which aims to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between peoples of different states and Union territories, a cultural evening was held at Raj Bhavan Shillong to commemorate the Foundation Day of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand.

Chief Secretary DP Wahlang graced the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of the Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor BDR Tiwari.

In his address, Wahlang lauded the central government’s initiative to celebrate the foundation day of various states, emphasizing its invaluable role in fostering greater integration and nurturing a deeper appreciation for each other’s languages, customs, and cultures.

He drew parallels between the states of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand with Meghalaya, highlighting the rich tapestry of shared similarities that binds them together.

Tiwari delved into the historical tapestry of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, while also shedding light on their remarkable strengths and achievements.

The evening’s cultural extravaganza featured a Hindi song rendition by the renowned singer, Antara Choudhury, and a captivating performance of drums by a group of Khasi ladies.

The foundation day message of the Governor of Uttarakhand Retd. Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh was screened for the audience.

The program was organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya.
