The IA Ayurvedic Medical College (IAMC) and the University Hospital of Ayurveda and Naturopathy (UHAN) at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya celebrated the 8th National Ayurveda Day and organised Yoga sessions, rally a lecture and a puja offered to the God of medicine—Sri Sri Dhanwantari.
The lecture on the theme “Ayurveda for One Health” was delivered by retired Prof (Dr) OP Gupta of the Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital Guwahati.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said, “Everyone knowing Ayurveda must say that investigation is important. Investigation helps us to diagnose better.” He also said that Ayurveda talks about personal health along with social health. Prof Gupta elaborated on how Ayurveda played a significant role during the Covid-19 pandemic.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque said that admissions for the Bachelor course in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) are going on now at IAAMC. “Though we are starting with 60 seat capacity now, the number will be increased next year. In the near future, before 2030, all healthcare divisions—Allopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy—along with research will exist in the USTM campus.”
IAMC Principal, Dr Anil Kr Sarma informed that the new IAAMC has begun functioning from the current academic session. He said the college has received all the approvals of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), Ministry of Ayush and admissions for 2023-24 session are going on at present.
