East Jaiñtia Hills police recovered 44,900 bottles of the banned Phyensedyl cough syrup from two trucks bearing identical numbers in Lumshnong today.
The seizure was made possible through a hawk-eyed naka guide, Y Syngkon stationed in Lumshnong along National Highway 6 to conduct check.
Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said the naka guide observed that two trucks coming from the opposition direction, one from Khliehriat and another from Umkiang, bear the same registration number JK02 AU 5651.
He said when asked to stop for verification, the truck coming from Khliehriat refused to comply and zoomed pass. The driver managed to flee after a pursuit, leaving the truck behind.
Dhanoa said the truck was taken to the Lumshnong Police station and during a search, 150 bags containing the spurious liquid drugs was recovered.
A case has been registered and police are verifying the ownership of the two trucks.
