The Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM) Eastern Region has set a one-month for NHAI to repair the Tuber Sohshrieh-Malidor stretch of the national highway 6.
The atrocious condition of the national highway has been on the news for years now and deadlines after deadlines have been served by various organisations and even traditional heads. Ye the national highway connects Assam, Manipur and Tripura, continues to be in a sorry condition and pose a danger to commuters, besides frequent break down of vehicles and traffic jams daily.
The recent deadline to the NHAI was sent by the Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong East Jaiñtia Hills District (SWSEJHD).
The JSM today in a letter to the NHAI (PUI) Project Director through the East Jaiñtia Hills Deputy Commissioner has expressed concerned that the road might cause accidents and claim lives.
Pointing out that there are two toll gates along the national highway, in Ialong and Lumshnong, which are fully functional, the JSM sought cooperation from the NHAI to ensure people have good quality road.
While setting a one-month deadline for repair and upgrade of the NH 6, the JSM said, “Failing to do so, we will have no other option but will have to take action, to ensure that our people have their basic right and to free them from any kind of exploitation.”
