Farmers of Sumer Elaka in East Jaiñtia Hills district have not been able to benefit from the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme because of the failure of the Meghalaya Rural Bank (MRB).
A complaint against the MRB Sutnga Branch was made by the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) today to Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal today stating that the branch manager did not respond to the request made by the farmers.
“While each farmer all over the country has so far received the right amount, our farmers have been denied this legitimate right on account of insensitivity and confrontational stance of the state government. The farmers have flagged the issue to the MRB- Sutnga branch several times but neither the branch manager nor the staff responded,” JNC, Sumer circle President Sakilan Chyrmang said.
He said that while the state government is required to identify the farmer families who should avail the scheme, it is not known why the bank delays it. “This unfortunate lapse is a cruel joke and injustice to the farmers,” he added.
The JNC in the complaint also stated that the farmers were subjected to rude behaviour by the bank staff
Chyrmang said the DC assured them to look into the matter with the concerned officials to ensure that rights of farmers as well as the public are not denied.
