The Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) met Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad today to raise pertinent issues concerning residents of the dispute border with Assam.
Speaking to reporters afterwards, HNYF assistant secretary Edward Thangkhiew said that the pressure group has received several complaints over time from residents regarding what they feel is a lack of assistance by police when the people on the border face trouble.
The border villages include Khlieh Umwang, Umlaper and Sabuda in Raid Nongtung.
According to the HNYF, when villagers try and register complaints at police outposts, they often find no personnel manning these stations and, even when present, police often do not register their FIRs.
The HNYF asked Prasad to take steps to correct these shortcomings and also requested the state government to depute more personnel on the district’s borders with Assam.
