The Shri Shri Hanuman Jayanti Utsav Samiti has said it has no links with the Vishvu Hindu Parishad (VHP) and that the cancellation of the permission to hold the Hanuman Jayanti procession by the district administration has caused chaos in the community.
A procession is scheduled to be held yesterday, which coincides with Good Friday. However, the scheduled procession was cancelled after the district administration revoked its permission given to the samiti on April 3.
The samiti in a letter to the deputy commissioner said cancellation of the permission for the procession has “incurred heavy financial loss and created chaos in the community” as it has to break the tradition performed for the last 50 years.”
Pointing out that the Hanuman Temple at Luckier Road, Shillong, established in 1942 is more than 81 years old and was established in Shillong by our forefathers, the samiti said in the last 51 years, the celebration must have coincided with many festivals of various religions and no individual have faced any inconveniences of any kind.
“It pains to inform that respected individuals and organizations blamed us for having ill intentions and other new channels and social media pages, we were tagged along with VHP (Vishvu Hindu Parishad),” the samiti said, adding, “Our entity is completely different from VHP. We only perform a single task of Hanuman Jayanti Utsav celebration solely as religious celebration for our community. We have no links with VHP or any other organization.”
