The Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the Department of Sociology at Sankardev College, in collaboration with North East Network (NEN), organised a one day workshop on ‘Enhancing Gender Awareness Among Students’ at the college auditorium today bringing together participants from 10 colleges and Martin Luther Christian University.
The aim was to sensitise students, who are the stakeholders of society, on the importance of gender-related issues, gender rights and equality.
Participants engaged through group discussions, exercises and shared their opinion and insights. Having been constantly working in the field of gender, the resource persons were able to reach out to the students in discussions and deliberations on issues pertaining to gender and power relations, patriarchy, violence against women and legal measures addressing such violence.
At its inaugural session, the workshop was graced by the Sankardev College principal EFP Lyngdoh, NEN’s Joy Grace Syiem, vice-principal K Chyne, IQAC Coordinator and faculty members of the Sociology Department as well as accompanying teachers of the participating colleges.
The resource persons were Nilanju Dutta of NEN Assam, who spoke about ‘Gender and Power Relations, Patriarchy and Violence against Women’ and Rebina Subba, Advocate, who spoke on the various ‘Laws on Crimes against Women and the Redressal Mechanisms’.
