Two fish retail outlets constructed under the centrally-sponsored scheme ‘Blue Revolution 2018-19’ were today inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills, W Nongsiej, at a function organised by the office of the district Fishery Officer at Iew Langstieh in the presence of the Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, PM Syiemlieh.
Myntris of the Hima, traditional heads, Superintendent of Fisheries of West Khasi Hills, Fishery Officer of Eastern West Khasi Hills, fish farmers and others were also present on the occasion.
During his brief address at the inauguration, Nongsiej informed that the project was implemented by the Department of Fisheries at a cost of Rs 10 lakh per outlet, with 60 percent of the total cost being a subsidy and the remaining 40 percent being borne by the beneficiaries.
The provision under the scheme includes machinery comprising refrigerators and other accessories in addition to the building component.
The DC also expressed hope that the inauguration of the retail outlets will pave the way for other fish farmers of the district and all others connected with the fish supply chain to further upscale their productivity through enhancement in the number of beneficiaries under the scheme in the near future.
Others who spoke during the programme included the Syiem, Deputy Syiem and Fishery Officer.
