With the aim to sensitize about the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and the newly launched Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Star Cement Ltd in collaboration with the Office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in collaboration with today distributed food on Community Support Scheme to the on-treatment TB patients at Pamra Paithlu PHC, East Jaiñtia Hills District.
While addressing the gathering, District Tuberculosis Officer, Jowai Dr. E.B.V. Laloo briefed the tuberculosis patients about the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, and she also said that TB is a highly infectious disease that can be spread by inhalation of airborne droplets expelled by infectious people while coughing or sneezing and for that reason, it is very important that TB patients wear a mask to prevent it from spreading.
The District Tuberculosis Officer urged the patients to regularly take medicines and complete their course of treatment to be cured of the disease. She also informed that testing for Tuberculosis can also be done in the District at Khliehriat Civil Hospital and Sutnga CHC.
During the programme, the TB patients along with the health officials and staff took the pledge to make India free from Tuberculosis by 2025.
The food items include milk, eggs, rice, soya chunks, lentils, cooking oil and a bucket to each patient.
