The rally against unemployment called by the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) will be based on eight demands that the State government should address.
FKJGP vice president, Kitboklang Nongphlang in a statement here said the government should come up with a State Employment policy to generate more employment opportunities for tribals in the state and central government departments, private companies and banks as well as in corporations.
He said that the government should immediately fill all the 3000 vacant posts as informed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in the last Assembly session and to direct the Meghalaya Public Service Commission and the District Selection Committee to speed up recruitment.
The rally which will be held on October 28 will also seek to demand transparency in recruitment, create skills development training programmes and job oriented programmes in different institutions and to convert the youth hostels to youth recreation centres or career guidance centres.
The other demands that the FKJGP, through the rally, would raise are constitution of the Meghalaya State Youth Commission for youth to raise their grievances and to open up avenues for them to set up their own business through various schemes.
