Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent Pala today said that he was ready to contest the 2023 Assembly elections but would not be a chief ministerial face of the party.

Speaking to media persons here today, Pala said that the Congress will complete the list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections by next month.

“The AICC will form an election committee and there will be a screening committee of the list of candidates,” he said.

Stating that the list of candidates will have both old and new faces, Pala said the party was geared up for the electoral battle.

“Initially we met a lot of challenges but now we are in a position to fight the upcoming elections,” he said.

On the issues that Congress has for the 2023 elections, Pala said that corruption in the MDA government would be the main poll plank of his party.

“If we look at the present government, the corruption level is so high. We are in the process of finalising our manifesto. Soon we will be able to tell how to ensure health, infrastructure, roads, jobs and other issues are focused in our manifesto,” said Pala.

Stressing on how money power has become a major issue during elections, Pala said that the people will not decide their vote based on money power.

“The voters are smarter than politicians these days,” he said.

Pala also said that the perception that Congress is no longer relevant in the political arena of Meghalaya will be for those who are in the government.

“Now in our party we have young and educated fresh faces with fresh minds,” he said, adding that the party is coming out with new ideas to garner support from the electorates.
