The State government has told the Meghalaya High Court that coke plants operating in the State without meeting the required norms have been shut down as per the orders passed by the National Green Tribunal.
The government gave its submission before the full bench of the High Court today while hearing the PIL filed by Shailendra Kumar Sharma.
Advocate-General Amit Kumar informed the court that the State Pollution Control Board has issued new norms on the site of coke plants of which some previously operating plants or others interested in obtaining license for operating coke plants have challenged by way of proceedings pending before a single bench of the court.
“Since the State submits that the NGT has permitted a period of four months for the State to report upon relocating the previous coke plants to the sites meeting the requisite norms, let the matter appear three months hence,” the High Court said while listing the matter for hearing on December 8.
