The Laskein block circle of the Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU) has demanded that the government operationalise the fire service in Raliang village.
The JSU met with Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to submit a memorandum in this regard. The union also wants the police outpost in Raliang to be upgraded to a full-fledged police station.
The JSU said that villagers are facing great hardship when fires break out, as they have to wait for fire service personnel to travel all the way from Jowai to deal with emergencies in Raliang.
