In a boost to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in the State, three-time MLA and former minister Adolf Lu Hitler Marak today joined the party.

Besides Marak, the others who also joined the AITC include former State BJP vice president David Ch Marak and former Joint Director of Education Department Bhupendra G. Momin.

They were welcomed into the AITC by party vice president Zenith Sangma, Chokpot MLA Lazarus Sangma and West Garo Hills convener Richard M. Marak at a function held at Tura.

Addressing the gathering, Marak said, “Nothing is as important as our land, and our lands are being taken away. That is why we should seek a leader who will work for the truth, justice, and for the welfare of the people. We should support such leaders. As for me, I believe in such leadership so let’s all be together and support those who can bring back our land which has been taken away from us.”

Marak also hit out at the Conrad Sangma-led MDA government over the boundary agreement signed with Assam.

“Before signing the MoU, you have to know whom this land belongs to. According to the Sixth Schedule, does it really belong to the government or does it belong to the people of Meghalaya? As far as I know, this land belongs to the people of Meghalaya. The government does not have the right to make a decision for even a piece of land,” Marak said while emphasising that the people of Meghalaya are fed up with the MDA government and are looking for an alternative in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Urging the people to embody the spirit of democracy, Marak said, “We may think that elections happen every term, but don’t vote just because they are your relatives, friends, or because it’s an old party. Instead, one must vote based on what issues you have pending. If someone gives you Rs 5000 for how long will you keep using that?”

Former State BJP vice president, David Ch Marak said that he decided to join the AITC as the State currently lacked quality leadership to bring in socio-economic development.

“As part of the Trinamool Congress, I want to contribute to developing Garo Hills. In comparison to other states, Meghalaya is developing at an extremely slow pace and in a disproportionate manner,” Marak said.

He also pointed out the price rise in Garo Hills and said, “We must stand united in fighting against the government that is working against the welfare of the people.”

TMC Meghalaya wholeheartedly inducted the new members into the party fold, in the presence of party leaders and supporters, and pledged to further add people from all walks of life who are willing to contribute in developing Meghalaya.
