As many as 111 projects amounting to Rs 1512.77 crore were sanctioned for Meghalaya under the schemes of the DONER Ministry and North Eastern Council (NEC) during the financial years 2014-15 to 2021-22.
However, of these 111 projects, only 24 have been completed amounting to Rs 130.84 crore.
According to official sources, 87 projects are ongoing with a total estimated cost of Rs 1381.93 crore.
Meanwhile, under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), 12 projects have been sanctioned for Meghalaya at a total cost of Rs 340.50 crore. However, none of them have been completed.
55 non-exempted Central ministries and departments are mandated to spend at least 10 per cent of their Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) for Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the North East region to accelerate the pace of development.
The budgetary allocations made available by the Ministry of Finance to various ministries on a year to year basis under the respective schemes are spent for the developmental activities of the North East region through the DONER Ministry and NEC.
Meanwhile, a total amount of Rs 798.89 crore has been released to Meghalaya against projects sanctioned under the schemes of DONER Ministry and NEC from 2017-18 till 2021-22.
During 2017-18, the amount released to the State against sanctioned projects was Rs 168.28 crore. In 2018-19, the amount released was Rs 65.29 crore. In 2019-20, the amount released was Rs 91.71 crore.
In 2020-21, the amount released was 58.69 crore while in 2021-22, the amount released for the sanctioned projects was Rs 415.90 crore.
