Meghalaya was among the 13 states and Union territories that have reported a decline in prevalence of anaemia among women in the age group of 15 to 49.
As per the fifth round of National Family Health Survey (NFHS), conducted by the Union Health Ministry during 2019-21, the prevalence of anaemia among women in this age group has risen to 57.0 percent as compared to 53.1 percent in NFHS-4 (2015-16).
However, 13 states and Union territories comprising Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, New Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep, have reported decline in anaemia during this period.
The Centre has implemented Anaemia Mukt Bharat, a strategy with the target of reducing anaemia in six population groups – children (6-59 months), children (5-9 years), adolescents girls and boys (10-19 years), pregnant women, lactating women and women of reproductive age (15-49 years).
