Acting on a tipoff, Ri-Bhoi police detained two buses and recovered over 90 bags containing illegal Burmese supari that was being transported to Guwahati.
The buses (AS 01 DC 7860 and AS 01 HC 9034) had left Jiribam, Manipur, and Dharmanagar, Tripura, loaded with these bags. On receiving specific information as to the illegal supply of the supari, police launched an operation to check vehicles and stopped the buses today morning at around 6am.
According to one of the bus drivers, Rafikul Rehman, the consignment belongs to one Hiren Ali, the owner of the buses.
