Following the massive damage caused by heavy rains and flood in South West Khasi Hills, the All Khasi Hills A.chik Federation (AKHAF) has urged the government to provide relief to affected people.
Informing that the people of Gillagora area under Ranikor block have been badly affected this year and are in dire need of essential items, AKHAF publicity secretary Sanggra Marak said that rice stocks, shops and markets have been badly affected due to incessant rains.
Marak said that the area has only one PWD road connecting Ranikor to Baghmara lie damaged due to landslide and completely blocked. He said that the affected areas under South West Khasi Hills are Maheshkola, Ranikor and Ryngku areas under Ranikor bloc, including Rengdim area Kallu areas under Mawshynrut block in West Khasi Hills district.
“The people of the affected area are staying in the relief camp and are seeking the assistance of the government as well as the concerned authorities,” he added.
