Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju paid a visit to Ri-Bhoi today as part of a tour of ‘aspirational districts’.
Ri-Bhoi is one of more than 100 such districts in the country. NITI Aayog aims to improve the socio-economic status of those listed in the Transformation of Aspirational Districts Programme.
Rijiju held a review meeting on the performance indicators for schemes that were implemented in Ri-Bhoi under the programme. Top officials from the district were present at the meeting.
The district administration produced a presentation detailing Ri-Bhoi’s performance in the implementation of schemes and projects as one of the aspirational districts, and Rijiju found them to be satisfactory.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, he lauded the line departments of Ri-Bhoi for their performance and also informed that the district’s ranking among the other aspirational ones has jumped from 51st position to fifth.
“There are certain issues that need to be focused on for the progress of India and the main aim of launching various schemes for the aspirational districts is to make a new India in terms of the economy,” Rijiju said, adding that in the coming two or three years the government is aiming for rapid growth to turn the country into a trillion-dollar economy.
Meanwhile, the minister also paid a visit to an Anganwadi centre in Umdihar and the health and wellness centre at Umsawnongkharai to interact with government employees and motivate them to work for the rapid growth of the district, state and country.
