A little under two weeks since it first emerged, two suspected members of Lawei ba Phyrnai, a self-styled terror group, were arrested by police.
The group had burst on the scene by threatening to target educational institutions if its demands were not met. The members were, it claimed, educated unemployed youths angry that the state government has not done more to provide jobs for the youths.
Police sources said that two people were arrested in Shillong by sleuths of the Crime Branch but declined to provide further details as investigations are still ongoing.
“We are still on the job and we burnt many midnight candles trying to crack this,” an officer said, adding that police considered the case a top priority after the initial threats were made.
One of those arrested is the founder of the group. In his emails he taunted the police, saying that he could not be captured.
