The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) today held a sit-in protest in all the district headquarters of the state and decided to intensify agitations if the government continues to remain adamant to their demands.
The teachers have been demanding for the upgradation of adhoc teacher salary pattern to deficit. But till date the government has not shown any seriousness towards it, the teachers said.
“This agitation is to express our unhappiness over the non-fulfilment of our demand to bring 844 ad hoc upper primary schools in state under the deficit system,” MUPSTA Organising cum Publicity Secretary EG War told reporters in Jowai.
He said the issue was raised by the association since 1993 and the government had only given the enhancement in December 2016. The enhancement was raised from 8000 to 16, 000 for assistant teachers then, he added.
“Our protests have always been peaceful and we will intensify our agitation if our demand is not met,” War said.
