Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the State government in the last two years has made a concerted effort to push and put maximum investment in the health sector.
“We had challenges in terms of manpower or infrastructure and it was a time when the crisis (Covid-19) gave us an opportunity to realize that we need to do much more when it comes to the health sector in our State,” he said at a function to inaugurate the GNM Nursing School in Nongstoiñ yesterday.
He informed that the GNM Nursing schools will be set up in Nongpoh, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills to close the man power deficiency in the Health Sector.
“The government is trying to ensure that the 600 health centres across the State is efficient and more effective to provide primary health care and service especially when our resources are limited,” he said.
He also informed that Medical Skill Centre, a project of 280 crores has been approved by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
“The increased enrollment in MHIS, the setting up of 485 different wellness and health centers and many other projects in the Health sector are some endeavours to give maximum thrust and priority to the Health sector,” he said.
He further urged officials and stakeholders to collectively address the maternal mortality and infant mortality rates.
