Jengjal MDC Grahambell A Sangma’s car was gheraoed by protestors while he was trying to leave the GHADC premises today.
The protestors comprising of the pressure groups in the Garo Hills had called for an office picketing to protest to demand the removal of newly elected CEM, Rakesh A Sangma.
The MDC was spotted by the groups who surrounded the vehicle demanding him to step out of the vehicle. The car carrying the MDC was later let off and police pacified the protestors.
The presence of Joint Secretary to the GHADC, P R Marak at the premises also angered the protestors.
This was the fifth agitation, following a ‘pens down’ strike within the council, two days of ‘non-cooperation’ and then a night road blockade last week. The pressure groups will continue with the picket of the GHADC for another three days.
The groups are angry with the ascension of Rakesh to the CEM’s chair, alleging that he and his family do not follow Garo customs and traditions as they are more influenced by Rakesh’s father’s Nepali roots.
