As a mark of recognition for their valuable contribution in the ongoing battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, ASHA facilitators and ASHA workers of Mairang constituency were today felicitated by Assembly Speaker and local MLA Metbah Lyngdoh at a programme held at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission.
During the programme, tablet computers under the Chief Minister’s Digital Learning Aid (MTAB) Scheme for 2021-2022 were also distributed by the Speaker and other dignitaries to students of 10 educational institutions of Eastern West Khasi Hills.
Altogether, 10 ASHA facilitators and 134 ASHA workers were felicitated on the day, while 887 students received tablet computers.
In his address to the gathering, Metbah Lyngdoh called upon the students to keep up with the times by leveraging technology as it provides them with tools to further amplify their day to day learning process even as he urged upon them to reap the benefits of technology to the optimum level and to avoid the negative aspects.
Acknowledging the yeoman’s service rendered by frontline workers including ASHAs since the commencement of the Covid pandemic, Lyngdoh stated that ASHAs are the pillars of the Health Department at the grassroots with them being actively involved in sensitizing citizens on the benefits of various programmes and activities of the department, including immunizations and Covid-19 vaccination in particular.
Also present at the programme were Water Resources Minister and Mawthadraishan MLA Brolding Nongsiej, Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills District W Nongsiej, Superintendent of Police Maxwell B Syiem, Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw PM Syiemlieh, traditional heads, health workers, ASHAs, teachers, students and others.
