The driver of the ill fated escort vehicle, which was involved in an accident near Khera under East Garo Hills, Dimsrang N Sangma along with another ABSI, Kromith Marak, have been suspended from duty.
The suspension comes in the wake of the accident where the police vehicle escorting the home minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, collided with a motorcycle that was coming in the opposite direction. The driver of the motorcycle, a 45 year old resident of Dobu, Joachim Marak, was killed on the spot while the pillion rider is still recovering from his injuries at the Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
The Home Minister was on his way to Williamnagar for a high level meeting with the district police officials when the accident took place on January 13 at 1:30 pm.
East Garo Hills police, through their social media handle, confirmed the suspension of the two policemen until further orders. A regular case into the incident has also been registered.
